1st Symbiosis (Offshore Renewable Energy for Defence) Regional Workshop on the Black Sea

EDA organises the first Symbiosis regional workshop focusing on the Black Sea, held in Bucharest from 30 to 31 May 2024, supported by the Euro-Atlantic Resilience Centre (E-ARC) and the National Institute for Research & Development in Informatics - ICI Bucharest.

Meeting purpose

The Symbiosis project management team will present the scope of the project, including objectives, events, deliverables, and timelines, and update on the progress regarding the tender of the project “Fostering Co-Existence between Offshore Renewable Installations and Defence Activities”.

Symbiosis members will enhance their understanding of the project and share their insights on the overall direction and relevance of the project outcome and high-quality outputs. In addition, the meeting will address the following objectives:

  • Identify key stakeholders to be sensitised and engaged in reaching a shared understanding of each other's concerns and requirements, and create conditions for co-existence in the Black Sea;
  • Exchange views concerning the suitability of the Black Sea for the deployment of offshore renewable energy projects and identify barriers, hurdles, and risks constraining their development and exploitation;
  • Present best practices, alternative options, and viable solutions to address the identified barriers and provide recommendations for future work to manage the impediments and enable sustainable conditions for coexistence.
